The massive mahogany doors of the 88th floor grand hall closed with a heavy, final thud, sealing away the murmurs of the elite families like a vault door clicking shut. The glittering ballroom, moments ago a theater of ambitions and designer perfumes, now felt like an empty tomb. / Chapter 9 / 10

Chapter 9 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYALKendrick tapped the screen twice, decrypting the incoming data packet. As the encrypted satellite feed loaded, his jaw clenched so hard the muscles in his cheek twitched.

"What is it?" Willa asked, walking over, sensing the sudden shift in the room's atmosphere.

"An internal security breach," Kendrick said coldly, typing a rapid sequence of commands into the console. "Arthur Vance. The rat didn't just run away when Barrett fell. He downloaded the entire offshore asset ledger—every shell company, every offshore account, every hidden account linking the syndicate to the federal oversight committee."

Willa’s eyes widened. "If the feds get that ledger..."

"The entire empire collapses in forty-eight hours," Kendrick finished, grabbing his heavy leather holster and strapping a Beretta 9mm to his hip with practiced ease. "And Arthur is currently boarding a private chartered jet at Teterboro Airport to hand it over to the Department of Justice in exchange for full immunity."

Kendrick turned toward the door, but before he took two steps, a small hand grabbed his sleeve.

Penny stood there, her clear gray eyes looking up at him with fierce determination, while Titan stood right beside her, letting out a low, rumbling growl.

"I'm coming too," Willa said firmly, stepping up beside the child.

Kendrick stared at her, stunned. "Willa, no. This isn't a game or a catering job. This is an armed extraction on an active tarmac. It's too dangerous."

"You think danger scares me?" Willa challenged, her chin lifting defiantly. "I survived poverty, eviction, starvation, and an assassination attempt by Barrett Hayes. I am not sitting up here playing damsel while you clean up a mess you brought into my life."
