Chapter 7 - THE RENTS OF VENGEANCEChaos erupted around the oval table. Capos stood up, shouting over one another, while armed bodyguards along the perimeter walls instantly raised their weapons, safety clicks echoing in unison.

"Lies! Fabricated evidence!" Barrett screeched, backing away from the table as two of Kendrick’s elite guards stepped forward to block his exit. "You're framing me, Ashford! You want to seize my shipping lanes!"

"You tried to spill blood inside my home," Kendrick said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he rounded the table. "And worse... you endangered my daughter."

Kendrick stopped two feet away from Barrett, towering over him.

"Under the ancient statutes of the syndicate, an attack on the master’s household is punishable by total forfeiture of assets, territory, and life," Kendrick declared, his eyes flashing with lethal intent.

"You can't do this!" Barrett stammered, sweat pouring down his pale cheeks. "The commission will never—"

"The commission is watching you pack your bags," Kendrick interrupted. He turned to the remaining capos. "Does anyone object?"

Not a single person at the table uttered a word. Salvatore slowly lowered his eyes, shaking his head. In the underworld, weakness was fatal, and Barrett had just exposed his throat to the wolf.

"Take him down to the shipping docks," Kendrick ordered flatly. "Strip him of his titles, lock down his accounts, and make sure he never sets foot in Manhattan again."

As dragged away screaming, his fingernails clawing helplessly against the polished mahogany floor, Kendrick turned back toward the elevator.

"Chairman Ashford," a trembling voice called out.

Kendrick stopped and glanced over his shoulder. It was Arthur Vance, Barrett’s fixer, who had wisely remained silent in the corner, his hands raised in surrender.

"What about the girl, sir? Willa Hayes—er, Willa... whatever her last name is," Arthur stammered nervously. "She still holds no place in the syndicate. What are you going to do with her?"

May you like

Kendrick stared blankly at Arthur for a long, agonizing moment before speaking three chilling words:

"Make her a queen."
