Chapter 6 - THE SILENT ASSASSIN

Arthur’s eyes turned bloodshot with rage. "Touch him and I swear to God I'll tear you apart with my bare hands!" he screamed into the intercom microphone.
"Come and try, my love," Victoria's cold laugh echoed through the speakers.
Arthur grabbed a tactical shotgun from the room's armory rack, racked a shell into the chamber, and smashed through the glass door of the security room. He ran through the burning, smoke-filled corridors like a demon unleashed.
Inside the library, the heavy steel panic room door slowly swung open.
Toby stood in the corner, holding a heavy bronze statue of a lion with both hands, shaking violently.
Victoria stepped inside, lowering her sunglasses, her dark eyes filled with absolute malice. "Look at you," she sneered, pointing her silenced weapon directly at the boy's chest. "A gutter rat who ruined a hundred-million-dollar plan. You should have stayed under your hedge, child."
"My dad is going to kill you," Toby said through gritted teeth, holding the heavy statue higher.
"Your 'dad' will be dead in two minutes," Victoria said softly, taking a step closer. "And all of his billions will pass to his grieving widow. It’s poetic, really."
She raised the gun and pulled back the hammer.
BANG!
A shot echoed—but it didn't come from Victoria's silenced pistol.
Victoria gasped, her body stiffening. A tiny red hole appeared in the center of her chest. She looked down in disbelief as a crimson stain rapidly spread across her white silk blouse.
She collapsed to her knees, her gun clattering to the floor.
Standing in the doorway behind her wasn't Arthur.
It was a woman dressed in dark tactical gear, holding a smoking pistol with a professional grip. She had sharp hazel eyes and a faint, crescent-shaped scar near her collarbone.
Toby dropped the bronze statue. His eyes widened in absolute shock.

"M... Mom?" Toby whispered, his voice trembling.
The woman lowered her weapon, her stoic, lethal expression melting into pure, emotional tenderness. "I told you to always stay hidden, sweetie," she said softly.
