Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Twist (And The Final Truth)

Before Viktor could pull his trigger, Nina didn't aim at him—she whistled. A sharp, two-tone frequency that hadn't been used in six years.
Grimm didn't attack Viktor. Instead, the massive dog spun around, charged backward, and slammed his heavy shoulder directly into the antique bookshelf behind Viktor—hard.
The massive mahogany structure, weakened by a hidden explosive charge Nina had wired during her two weeks auditing the estate's security flaws, groaned, snapped, and came crashing down directly on top of Viktor Rostov and his remaining guards, burying them under tons of ancient books and heavy oak timber.
Silence crashed over the library.
Lorenzo slumped back in his chair, coughing up a streak of blood, looking at Nina with an expression that was half-shock, half-awe. "You... you rigged the library."
"You taught me to never trust a safe room," Nina replied calmly, lowering her weapon and walking over to untie his bonds. "And you forgot one important detail about my past, Lorenzo."
Lorenzo winced as she pulled him to his feet. "What detail?"
Nina crouched down as Grimm trotted over, resting his heavy chin back on her knee, his amber eyes blinking with gentle devotion.
"Ghost wasn't stolen by a random broker six years ago," Nina whispered, looking dead into the crime lord's eyes. "My father didn't die of a natural heart attack. He was a low-level accountant for the Castellano syndicate who tried to walk away—and you sent your clean-up crew to erase our family."
Lorenzo’s breath caught in his throat, his hand drifting instinctively toward his empty holster.
"You didn't buy my dog from a pit in Bucharest," Nina continued, her voice dropping to a terrifying, quiet whisper as she raised her Glock and pressed the cold barrel directly beneath Lorenzo's chin. "You stole him from my yard the night my father died. And I spent six years becoming the exact kind of monster I needed to be to get inside your house, earn your trust, and tear your empire down from the inside out."
Grimm let out a low, approving rumble, his tail giving a single, heavy thump against the floor.
Nina pulled the trigger.
The penthouse doors swung wide open to the dawn light, framing a new queen who didn't need anyone's permission to rule the underworld. The Queen of the Underworld Never Looked Back
The deafening echo of the gunshot faded into the morning air, leaving behind an absolute, terrifying silence that swallowed the grand library whole. Lorenzo Castellano slid down the mahogany chair, his whiskey-colored eyes wide with shock, his empire crumbling into dust alongside him.
Nina didn’t flinch. She stepped over the fallen crime lord with the calm, methodical grace of someone walking through an empty grocery store.

"Come on, Ghost," she murmured, holstering her weapon.
The massive charcoal beast trotted obediently at her heel, his muscular frame moving with fluid, silent power. As they crossed the ruined threshold of the estate, the remaining Castellano guards—men who had once been feared across the entire eastern seaboard—lowered their weapons without a single word of protest. They recognized authority when they saw it. The throne was vacant, and the girl with the lullaby was the only one left standing.
