Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of Ashes

By noon, the news had swept through the underground network like wildfire. The Castellano dynasty was gone, wiped out in a single night of calculated betrayal.

Nina sat in the high-backed leather chair at the head of the mahogany boardroom table in the penthouse. Stacks of encrypted financial ledgers, digital override keys, and real estate deeds representing billions in illicit assets were spread out before her.

"The regional bosses are on the secure line," her new chief of security—a scarred veteran who had switched sides the moment Lorenzo hit the floor—announced nervously. "They want to know who’s running the routes out of the docks."

Nina didn’t look up from her tablet. "Tell them the toll has doubled. And if anyone asks who’s in charge, tell them the catering girl is handling the menu."

The enforcer swallowed hard, nodded, and hurried out of the room.

Nina reached down, her fingers scratching the thick scar behind Grimm’s left ear. The dog leaned his heavy head against her knee, letting out a contented sigh. They had won. Her brother, Leo, was safely tucked away in a Swiss medical facility under an assumed identity, completely cured and entirely unaware of the bloodline his sister had just claimed.
