Chapter 4 - The Predator Becomes the Prey

A Desperate IntrusionI screamed, stumbling backward as two men dressed in dark tactical gear burst through the shattered door. They didn't look like common burglars; their movements were precise, efficient, and lethal.

“Secure the target!” one of them yelled, lunging toward me.

I didn't think about myself. I thought about my baby. I threw a heavy ceramic vase at the first man’s face, shattering it against his cheekbone. He groaned, stumbling back, but the second man grabbed my arm, twisting it behind my back.

“Let go of me! Help! Somebody help me!” I screamed, kicking wildly.

“Shut her up! The General said to bring her to the private clinic now! The induction drugs are ready!” the second man growled, pulling out a zip-tie to bind my wrists.

They weren't trying to kill me. They were trying to kidnap me to force an early delivery at a private, corrupt medical facility controlled by General Vance. Once the baby was born, I would disappear forever.

Suddenly, the front door didn't just open—it was entirely kicked off its hinges.

Alejandro stood in the frame, flanked by three heavily armed men from his elite special forces unit. They weren't wearing their dress uniforms; they were in full combat gear, their rifles raised and lasers painting the chests of my attackers.

“Drop her,” Alejandro said, his voice dropping to a frequency that made the floorboards vibrate. “Drop her right now, or I will end you where you stand.”

The two kidnappers froze. They knew they were completely outmatched. They slowly raised their hands, releasing their grip on me. I collapsed into Alejandro’s arms, sobbing hysterically as his men pinned the intruders to the ground.

“I’m here, Elena. I’ve got you,” Alejandro whispered, holding me tightly against his chest, his body radiating a terrifying heat. He looked down at the captured men. “Who sent you? Speak, or I turn you over to the military police for treason.”

The man with the broken cheekbone spat blood onto the floor. “It’s too late, Captain. General Vance already signed the emergency military arrest warrant for you. You’re being charged with treason and insubordination. They’re coming for you right now.”

The Trap Is SetBefore the kidnapper could finish his sentence, the sound of heavy military transport vehicles echoed outside our house. We looked out the window to see three military humvees pulling up into our driveway, armed soldiers spilling out, led by none other than Major General Arthur Vance himself.

Vance walked up the steps, his chest covered in medals, his face a mask of absolute arrogance. He didn't bring local police; he brought his own loyal faction of military personnel.

“Captain Alejandro Vargas!” Vance shouted through a megaphone. “You are officially under arrest by order of the United States Military. Step outside with your hands up, or we will use lethal force!”

Inside, Alejandro looked at his loyal men, then at me. There was no fear in his eyes. Only the cold satisfaction of a chess grandmaster who had just baited his opponent into a final, fatal mistake.

“Elena,” Alejandro said, grabbing my shoulders gently. “Can you be brave for just ten more minutes?”

May you like

I wiped my tears, nodding fiercely. “Whatever it takes.”

“Good,” Alejandro smiled, a ruthless glint in his eye. “Because General Vance just walked right into a trap he can never escape.”
