Chapter 7 - The Final Signature

Arthur's hand hovered over the dotted line of the transfer agreement, the gold pen trembling so violently he could barely hold it steady.

"Sign on page four, paragraph twelve," I instructed, my tone devoid of any warmth or hesitation. "And initial every cross-reference clause on the addendum regarding asset forfeiture."

Daniel leaned over his father’s shoulder, watching the pen move across the paper with wide, terrified eyes. "Is it really over?" he whispered, more to himself than to anyone else. "We have nothing left? Not even the trust fund?"

"You never had anything," I said quietly, standing up from my chair and smoothing down the front of my jacket. "You just rented it on my credit."

Arthur dragged the pen across the final signature line, pressing down so hard the nib tore slightly through the heavy bond paper. He dropped the pen as if it had burned his fingers, slumping back into his chair with a defeated groan.

Naomi stepped forward, picking up the document and inspecting the signatures with practiced precision. She pulled a digital scanner from her briefcase, snapped an image of the executed pages, and transmitted them directly to the federal registry database and our corporate servers in Zurich.

"Confirmation received," Naomi announced, looking up at me. "The transfer is legally binding. Vance Manufacturing, all subsidiary real estate holdings, and the primary estate are now fully under Aethelgard Holdings' direct control. The restructuring is complete."

I looked down at my family one last time.

Arthur sat with his head in his hands, staring blankly at the plastic table. Daniel and Melissa stood frozen in the corner, realizing that their expensive cars, designer clothes, and social standing were gone forever—replaced by a mountain of liability and public disgrace.

"The guesthouse has already been cleared," I said, walking toward the heavy metal door of the conference room. "You have until tomorrow morning to remove your personal belongings from the main estate before the new management takes physical possession."

"Claire..." Arthur whispered, not looking up. "Will we... will we ever see you again?"

May you like

I paused with my hand on the doorknob, turning my head slightly back toward the room.

"Cheers," I said softly. "This is the last time any of you will see me."
