Chapter 8 - A New Horizon

An hour later, the private executive jet was idling on the tarmac at the private airfield, its twin engines humming a low, steady bass note against the evening wind.

I walked up the carpeted mobile stairs, carrying my worn handbag—the same one I had carried into the ballroom on Saturday night. Naomi followed closely behind me, carrying the secure briefcase containing the finalized deeds and corporate charters.

As I stepped into the cabin, I turned around to look out the open doorway one last time.

The sun was sinking below the horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of gold, amber, and violet. Far below, the city lights were beginning to twinkle like a million distant stars.

The game was over. The camouflage was gone. I no longer needed to hide behind the persona of the failing, overlooked daughter who lived in the guesthouse. The invisible empire I had built in the shadows was now standing in the light, anchored by absolute independence and untouchable power.

I stepped inside, settled into the plush leather seat, and fastened my seatbelt.

"Where to first, Ms. Vance?" the pilot’s voice came smoothly over the intercom.

I looked out the window as the jet began to taxi down the runway, accelerating smoothly into the open night sky.

"Zurich," I smiled. "And then... wherever we want."
