Chapter 3 - The Trial in the Dust

🚨 AMBUSH IN SAN MARCOS! Corrupt Police Try to Arrest the Millionaire, but the Power of Justice Backfires Instantly! 🚨"Fire! Get the old man out!" Carlos yelled, drawing his weapon as Mateo shielded Don Elías from the shattered glass and heat.
The security team sprang into action with military precision. Within seconds, Don Elías was carried out of the smoke-filled house and placed safely inside the middle armored SUV.
Outside, the scene was chaotic. The dry night air was illuminated by the flashing red and blue lights of four local police pickup trucks. A dozen armed officers, led by a heavy-set police chief with a gold tooth, had surrounded Mateo’s vehicles.
Standing right behind the police chief was Don Filemón, a smug grin plastered across his sweaty face.
"There he is, Chief!" Filemón shouted, pointing at Mateo. "That's the man! He came into our town with armed bodyguards, destroyed legal court documents, and threatened my life! Arrest him!"
The police chief stepped forward, tapping his baton against his hand. "Step out of the vehicle and put your hands where I can see them. You’re under arrest for trespassing, destruction of property, and inciting a riot."
Mateo walked calmly down the steps of his burning home. He didn't look panicked. He didn't even look angry. He looked... amused.
"Chief Ramirez," Mateo said, reading the name tag on the officer’s uniform. "I assume you are the cousin of Don Filemón? The one whose lavish lifestyle in Oaxaca City is paid for by 'donations' from the local municipal budget?"
The chief’s smile faded. "Watch your mouth, boy. You’re in my jurisdiction now. Out here, the law is what I say it is."
"Is that so?" Mateo smiled, pulling a sleek satellite smartphone from his pocket. He pressed a button and held it up. "Then perhaps you’d like to explain your version of the law to Federal Commissioner Vargas of the National Gendarmerie. He’s currently on the line, and he has been listening to this entire exchange via our live satellite feed."
The chief froze. The gold tooth in his mouth glinted in the police lights, but his eyes filled with sudden terror.
"And before you think about shooting the phone or cutting the feed," Mateo continued, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper, "I should let you know that three transport helicopters carrying federal agents and prosecutors are currently five minutes away from San Marcos. They are coming to execute a federal warrant for the arrest of Don Filemón—and anyone aiding him—for the crimes of land fraud, money laundering, and..."
Mateo paused, locking eyes with Filemón.
"...the double homicide of Aurelio and Sofia Ramirez twenty-five years ago."
Filemón’s jaw dropped. "You... you have no proof! That fire was ruled an accident!"
"We didn't have proof yesterday," Mateo said, gesturing toward the back of his property where his team had been excavating. "But my team just unearthed the skeletal remains of the watchman who worked for my biological parents. The watchman who vanished the night of the fire. The watchman whose skull has a bullet hole that matches a vintage .38 caliber revolver—the exact weapon you registered with the local municipality twenty-five years ago, Filemón."
A murmur of horror rippled through the gathered villagers. The people of San Marcos, who had lived under Filemón's reign of terror for decades, began to move forward, their faces filled with righteous anger.
"He killed them..." an old woman whispered. "He stole everything!"
"Traitor! Monster!" the crowd began to shout, throwing rocks and dirt at Filemón’s lawyers.
The police chief looked at the angry crowd, then at Mateo’s highly trained, armed security force, and finally at his own men, who were already lowering their weapons in fear of the incoming federal forces.
Seeing the writing on the wall, the chief slowly took a step back from Filemón. "Filemón... you never told me about any watchman. I have nothing to do with this!"

"You coward!" Filemón screamed, grabbing the chief’s collar. "I made you! I paid for your house! You protect me!"
THE CLIFFHANGER: Suddenly, a loud, mechanical roar echoed from the night sky. Giant spotlights beamed down from federal helicopters, blinding the crowd. In the chaos, Filemón broke free, grabbed a rifle from a distracted police officer's truck, and pointed it straight at Don Elías's SUV!
