Chapter 4 - The Ultimate Sacrifice Reclaimed

💔 "IF I GO DOWN, WE ALL GO DOWN!" Desperate and Ruined, the Villain Makes One Last Deadly Choice! 💔"Don Elías! Watch out!" Carlos screamed.

But before the warning could fully register, the deafening crack of a rifle shot shattered the night.

The bullet struck the reinforced bulletproof glass of the SUV. Though it didn't pierce the cabin, the sheer force shattered the outer layer, sending a shockwave through the vehicle. Inside, the stress and the smoke proved too much for Don Elías’s fragile heart. The old man gasped, his eyes rolling back as he collapsed onto the leather seat.

"Father!" Mateo yelled, rushing to the vehicle. He didn't care about the gunfire or the chaos around him.

Federal agents were rappelling down from the helicopters, instantly swarming the area and disarming the local police. Filemón, realizing he was completely surrounded, dropped the rifle and tried to flee into the dark cornfields—the very fields where Don Elías had labored for twenty-five years.

"Secure the perimeter! Do not let him escape!" the federal commander ordered, but Mateo wasn't listening.

He was inside the SUV, cradling Don Elías’s head in his lap. "Father, stay with me. Please, stay with me! Dr. Silva, do something!"

"His heart is failing, Mateo!" the doctor shouted, preparing a syringe of epinephrine. "We need to get him to the hospital immediately. The road is blocked by police vehicles, and the terrain is too rough for an ambulance!"

Mateo looked up at the federal helicopters landing in the nearby field. He grabbed the federal commander by his tactical vest. "I need your helicopter. Now! My father is dying!"

"Sir, this is a federal crime scene—"

"I don't care!" Mateo roared, his eyes wild with a mixture of terror and authority. "I will buy your entire agency if I have to! Get him on that helicopter, or I swear to God, I will hold everyone here personally responsible!"

Recognizing the desperation and the immense influence of the young billionaire, the commander nodded. "Load him up! Quick!"

Mateo and the medical team carried the frail old man through the dust, lifting him into the roaring cabin of the helicopter. As the blades began to spin faster, lifting them into the dark sky, Mateo looked down at the shrinking village of San Marcos.

Down below, federal agents were dragging a mud-covered, weeping Don Filemón out of the cornfield in handcuffs. The tyrant had finally been captured, brought down in the very dirt he had stolen.

But as Mateo looked down at his father’s pale, lifeless face, his heart sank.

"Please, Dad," Mateo whispered, tears dropping onto the old man’s worn, dirt-stained hands. "I built this entire empire for you. I bought the houses, the cars, the best doctors... none of it matters if you aren't there to see it. Don't leave me alone in the trash again."

Don Elías’s hand twitched weakly. His eyelids fluttered open, just a fraction.

"Mateo..." he whispered over the roar of the helicopter blades. "The land... you must... protect the land..."

"I will, Father. I swear I will," Mateo sobbed.

"No... you don't understand..." Elías gasped, his breathing shallow. "Under the old well... it's not just bones... there is... a key..."

THE CLIFFHANGER: Before Don Elías could finish his sentence, the heart monitor connected to his chest let out a flat, continuous, terrifying beep. PEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
