Chapter 1 - THE SILENT AUDITThe moon over Sterling Falls hung low and heavy, casting an amber glow over the sprawling wrought-iron gates of the Sterling estate. Inside the mahogany-paneled study, Charles Sterling swirled a glass of vintage bourbon, his face flushed with the arrogant certainty of a man who owned the soil beneath his feet.

"Let the soldier boy bark," Charles laughed, tossing a stack of unread mortgage default notices onto his leather desk. "A grunt from the Mojave cannot touch a dynasty built on timber, debt, and blood."

Across town, at a safehouse just past the county line, First Sergeant Marcus Vance stood over a glowing tactical map. Beside him sat Master Sergeant David Ramirez and Technical Sergeant Sarah Lin—veterans of cyber warfare, financial forensics, and tactical infiltration. They weren’t carrying assault rifles. Their weapons of choice were encrypted hard drives, satellite uplinks, and a stack of federal warrants pre-signed by a judge three states away who had jurisdiction over interstate financial fraud.

"Colonel Mitchell’s orders are clear," Sarah murmured, her fingers flying across a mechanical keyboard as lines of green code cascaded down three monitors. "We don't arrest them. We dismantle them. Every asset, every shell company, every hidden account—we freeze it before the sun comes up."

Marcus stared at a digital photo of nine-year-old Lily, her small face bruised and bandaged in the Asheville hospital bed. He remembered the sound of her whisper. He remembered Evelyn’s voice dripping with venom over the speakerphone.

"They think they're untouchable because they bought the police, the council, and the courts," Marcus said, his voice flat, cold, and entirely devoid of emotion. "They forgot that federal jurisdiction doesn't care about a local sheriff who eats Sunday dinner at their table."

"Target locked," David announced, clicking a mouse. "Sterling Valley Finance is bleeding its primary liquidity into offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands. It’s tax evasion, money laundering, and interstate racketeering. The total asset freeze hits in three minutes."

Marcus walked to the window, watching the distant lights of Sterling Falls twinkle in the valley. "Execute."
