Chapter 6 - THE CONFESSION IN THE INTERROGATION ROOMTwo days later, the sterile, fluorescent-lit interrogation room at the downtown Federal Building felt a million miles away from the glittering crystal chandeliers of the Beverly Hills mansion.

I sat on one side of the stainless-steel table, watching through the one-way mirror. Inside the glass box, Camryn Cross sat in a standard orange jumpsuit. Her hair, usually meticulously styled, fell in wild, graying strands around her face. Her makeup was gone, revealing the deep, etched lines of a woman whose entire legacy had just been detonated.
Across from her sat Special Agent Vance and a federal prosecutor.
"The evidence from the cloud server is absolute, Mrs. Cross," Vance was saying, sliding a thick binder of financial printouts across the metal table. "Every shell corporation, every fraudulent wire transfer to offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, and every recorded instruction directing your son to commit domestic and financial coercion. Your signature is on every single document."
Camryn stared at the files, her hands trembling violently. The invincible matriarch was gone; in her place was a broken, cornered woman staring down the barrel of a mandatory thirty-year federal sentence.
"Elena..." Camryn whispered, her voice raspy and broken, though she knew I was listening through the audio feed in the observation room. "She... she’s watching, isn't she?"
Vance didn't answer. He just watched her with professional detachment.
"I built this empire from nothing," Camryn muttered, tears finally spilling down her hollow cheeks. "I sacrificed everything to protect the Cross name. And she destroyed it in forty-eight hours."
May you like
"You didn't protect an empire, Camryn," I spoke softly into the small microphone connected to the room's speakers, my voice echoing through the hidden intercom. "You built a prison of lies, and you locked your own family inside it. The bill always comes due."
Camryn flinched violently at the sound of my voice, burying her face in her cuffed hands as the full, crushing weight of her defeat finally broke her spirit.
