Chapter 7 - THE FALL OF AN EMPIREBy the end of the week, the financial markets were in a frenzy. Cross Global Enterprises had suspended trading as federal agents seized corporate headquarters, freezing billions in assets. Headlines blared across every major news network: BILLIONAIRE DYNASTY COLLAPSES: CAMRYN AND ADRIAN CROSS INDICTED IN MASSIVE FEDERAL FRAUD SCHEME.

The mansion in Beverly Hills was quiet—eerily quiet. The crystal chandelier still glittered, but the illusion of luxury was gone, replaced by bright yellow federal seizure notices plastered across the front doors.
I walked through the empty hallways for the last time, packing a single leather duffel bag. My military service had taught me how to deploy, how to survive, and how to leave a combat zone when the mission was successfully completed.
Adrian was being held without bail at the federal detention center, awaiting trial alongside his mother. In a desperate bid for a reduced sentence, his new defense attorney had already started filing documents to cooperate with federal prosecutors, turning over every dirty secret Camryn had ever hidden. They were tearing each other apart from the inside out—exactly as I knew they would.
As I zipped my bag, the front door chimed softly.
I walked down the grand staircase and opened the door. Standing on the porch was a sleek black federal vehicle. Agent Vance stepped out, holding a large manila envelope.
"Everything is wrapped up, Agent Vance?" I asked, leaning against the doorframe.
"The freeze orders are permanent, and the asset forfeiture hearings begin next month," Vance said, offering a rare, respectful nod. "The government owes you a debt of gratitude, Elena. Without your meticulous evidence preservation and tactical execution, this syndicate would have continued laundering funds for another decade."
"I just finished the mission," I replied smoothly, taking the envelope. Inside was a full clearance document confirming my complete immunity and protection as a federal informant and operative.

"What are your plans now?" Vance asked, looking around the palatial estate. "You could write your own ticket in federal security consulting. With your CID background and what you just pulled off here, agencies would fight over you."
I smiled, slinging my duffel bag over my shoulder. "I think I’ve had my fill of corporate boardrooms and billionaire dynasties for a lifetime."
