Chapter 10 - Dawn Over the Whitmore EmpireThree months later.

The morning sun washed over the penthouse, turning the minimalist white rooms into a warm, radiant sanctuary. There were no more cold, empty corners. Brightly colored drawings hung on the refrigerator, small toys littered the living room rug, and the sound of children giggling filled the air.

On the expansive balcony overlooking the gleaming city skyline, Grant sat at a wooden table with two small girls sitting on his lap.

Norah wore a bright yellow dress, and Hazel wore pink. Both had red ribbons tied neatly in their dark curls.

“Daddy,” Hazel asked, pointing down at the bustling street below, “can we get ice cream today?”

Grant laughed, wrapping his arms around them and kissing the top of their heads. “Ice cream for breakfast if you want it.”

The girls cheered in delight, scrambling down to run inside and grab their shoes.

Grant leaned back in his chair, taking a deep breath of the fresh morning air. The silence that he had once craved, the cold isolation he had used as armor against a cruel world, was gone forever.

He reached into his coat pocket, feeling the small, hard edge of an old, faded red soda-bottle cap—a reminder of the rainy alley where his life had truly begun.
