CHAPTER 2 — The Visitor Nobody Expected

Within minutes, whispers spread through every building.

"A federal inspection."

"No..."

"Someone important."

Even Raven became curious.

She watched from the garden fence as four men in dark suits stepped out of the SUV.

None wore prison uniforms.

None carried weapons.

But every correctional officer immediately stood straighter.

Then...

An elderly man exited the vehicle.

Silver hair.

Simple gray suit.

Walking cane.

Yet the prison warden greeted him with visible respect.

"Welcome, Your Honor."

The title shocked everyone.

A judge?

Why would a federal judge visit a prison without notice?

The elderly man didn't answer.

Instead...

He slowly looked across the garden.

Searching.

Almost...

As if he were looking for one specific person.

His eyes stopped.

On Emma.

She was still planting flowers.

Completely soaked.

Covered in mud.

The old man's expression changed instantly.

His hands began trembling.

He whispered only two words.

"My child..."

The prison staff exchanged confused looks.

Before anyone reacted...

The elderly judge walked directly into the garden.

Ignoring prison protocol.

Ignoring security warnings.

Ignoring everyone.

He stopped only inches from Emma.

For several long seconds...

Neither spoke.

Then Emma quietly smiled.

"You finally found me."

The judge's eyes filled with tears.

"I've been looking for eighteen months."

The entire prison stood frozen.

Even Raven couldn't breathe.

The judge gently placed both hands on Emma's shoulders.

"I told them not to reveal your identity."

"I wanted to know how this prison truly treated people."

Gasps spread across the yard.

Identity?

What identity?

The warden looked completely pale.

Emma slowly reached into her soaked pocket.

She pulled out a waterproof identification badge.

The federal seal glistened under the morning sun.

Special Investigator.

Department of Justice.

The prison garden exploded into complete silence.

Raven's smile disappeared.

Emma had never been an ordinary inmate.

She had volunteered to enter Graystone under deep cover.

Her mission?

Expose years of corruption...

And identify every prisoner, guard, and officer involved.

But Emma's calm face suddenly changed.

She looked toward Raven.

Then...

Toward one particular correctional officer standing beside the fence.

The officer immediately looked away.

Emma quietly said...

"She's not the real problem."

Everyone turned toward the guard.

May you like

"What he did..."

"...is far worse."
