CHAPTER 6 – The DNA That Changed Everything

The courtroom erupted into chaos.
Reporters shouted questions.
Cameras flashed nonstop.
Jonathan Hale stood frozen, staring at the young woman who had just claimed to be his daughter.
Emily's hands trembled.
Richard Vaughn, now surrounded by court officers, looked genuinely terrified for the first time in decades.
"What are you talking about?" Jonathan finally asked.
Sophia stepped forward, clutching the DNA report against her chest.
"My mother... Olivia Vaughn... told me the truth on her deathbed."
She swallowed hard.
"She wasn't Richard's daughter."
Everyone frowned.
"My grandmother became pregnant after secretly meeting you thirty years ago."
Jonathan's heart pounded.
"I... never knew."
"You couldn't have known," Sophia replied softly.
"The night you planned to leave town with Emily... everything was already falling apart."
She handed the judge another sealed envelope.
Inside were old photographs.
Jonathan and Emily at medical school.
Jonathan wearing the same watch he still wore today.
And one picture no one had ever seen.
Jonathan comforting a young woman outside the hospital after she had been attacked during a charity event.
That woman was Sophia's mother.
Richard suddenly slammed his fist on the table.
"She's lying!"
But before anyone could react, the courtroom doors opened once more.
An elderly priest slowly walked inside.
"I can confirm her story."
Every eye turned toward him.
"My name is Father Michael."
"Thirty years ago, Olivia confessed everything to me."
He removed a faded journal from his bag.
"I promised never to reveal it while she was alive."
He opened the final page.
"My child deserves to know the truth one day."
Those were Olivia's own handwritten words.
Tears streamed down Sophia's face.
Jonathan slowly approached her.
His voice barely rose above a whisper.
"If this is true..."
"I've missed every birthday."
"Every Christmas."
"Every moment of your life."
Sophia smiled sadly.
"You didn't abandon me."
"You were robbed of me."
For the first time in thirty years, Jonathan broke down.
He hugged Sophia tightly as the courtroom applauded through tears.
Even the judge wiped his eyes.
But the emotional reunion lasted only seconds.
A court officer rushed toward the judge.
"Your Honor!"
"We have urgent news."
He handed over a phone.
The judge's expression instantly changed.
He looked directly at Jonathan.
"Mr. Hale..."
"I'm afraid your foundation has just been hacked."
"What?"
"More than four billion dollars has disappeared from your charitable accounts."
The courtroom gasped.
The judge continued.
"The transfer happened less than ten minutes ago..."
He paused, unable to believe what he was reading.
"And according to the digital records..."
"The transaction was authorized..."
"...using Jonathan Hale's own biometric security."
Jonathan stared at the screen in disbelief.
"That's impossible."
Then every phone in the courtroom buzzed at the same time.
A live video appeared.
A masked man sat in Jonathan's private office.
Behind him hung the Hale Foundation logo.
The stranger smiled into the camera.
"Hello, Jonathan."
"You've finally reunited with your family..."
"But now it's time for you to lose something far more valuable."
He slowly removed his mask.
The entire courtroom fell silent.
The man had Jonathan Hale's face.
Not someone who merely resembled him.
He looked exactly like him.
And with a chilling smile, he said only six words:
May you like
"I'm the brother you never knew."
