Chapter 7 - The Downfall of the MistressWhile Grant was trapped in the financial boardroom nightmare, Vanessa Cole was sitting in the lobby of the Beacon Hill penthouse, her nerves frayed and her phone buzzing incessantly.

She had tried calling Grant three times, but his phone went straight to voicemail.
"Miss Cole?"
Vanessa looked up to see two sharp-looking men in dark suits standing before her, flanked by the building's head of security.
"Yes? Can I help you?" Vanessa asked, trying to put on her most imperious air.
"I am Marcus Vance, Chief Compliance Officer for Mercer Holdings," the taller man said, flashing a gold-badged identification card. "We have a court-ordered repossession and audit warrant for this property, effective immediately."
Vanessa stood up, her eyes flashing with anger. "Are you out of your mind? Do you know who I am? This penthouse belongs to Grant Whitmore! You can't just—"
"This penthouse," Marcus interrupted coldly, "was purchased using embezzled capital siphon-transferred from the Rowan-Rowan Trust in 2018. Under federal asset forfeiture laws, all properties, vehicles, and luxury items acquired via these funds are subject to immediate seizure."
Before Vanessa could protest, the elevator doors opened behind the officers, and two professional moving technicians stepped out, carrying heavy-duty garment bags and plastic storage bins.
"Get your things, Miss Cole," Marcus said flatly. "You have twenty minutes to vacate the premises. All designer handbags, jewelry, and luxury assets purchased on Grant Whitmore's corporate cards are cataloged as recovered corporate property."
"You can't do this!" Vanessa shrieked, her high-society facade shattering completely as she realized her entire lifestyle—every luxury bag, every designer dress, every free ride funded by Grant's stolen empire—was vanishing into thin air. "I'll call my lawyers! I'll call the police!"

"Call whoever you like," Marcus said, gesturing to the guards. "And by the way... your employment contract with Whitmore Consulting has just been terminated for corporate fraud and ethics violations. Security will escort you to the curb."
Within thirty minutes, Vanessa Cole—the high-flying mistress who had laughed at Claire’s pain—was standing on the wet Boston sidewalk in her designer heels, clutching a single small gym bag while a crowd of curious onlookers watched her public humiliation.
