Chapter 4 - Baptism of Fire

The private shooting range in the subterranean depths of Caradonna Manor echoed with the deafening cracks of a Sig Sauer P320.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Three rounds tore through the center of the paper silhouette fifty yards away, punching a tight cluster right through the target's chest cavity.

Ethan lowered his weapon, stepping back from the firing line to watch Olivia. She stood with her feet planted shoulder-width apart, her arms locked, her breathing slow and controlled. She had traded her stained apron for a sleek tactical jumpsuit that clung to her frame, her dark hair pulled back into a sharp braid.

"Again," Ethan commanded.

Olivia didn't hesitate. She fired five rapid rounds, each shot snapping through the air with lethal precision.

"You're anticipating the recoil," Ethan said, stepping up behind her. His hand reached out, gently pressing against her right elbow, adjusting her stance by a fraction of an inch. His chest brushed against her back, and for a split second, the heavy scent of cedarwood and gun oil filled her senses. "Relax your shoulders. Let the weapon become an extension of your own pulse."

Olivia exhaled slowly, her heart hammering against her ribs—not from fear, but from the electric proximity of the man who had upended her entire existence. She pulled the trigger twice more. The grouping on the target tightened into a single, ragged hole.

"Better," Ethan murmured, his voice low against her ear. "Much better."

Before Olivia could respond, a shrill, high-pitched alarm echoed through the concrete bunker. Red emergency lights began to pulse along the baseboards, casting a crimson hue over the metallic walls.

Across the room, the master security console flared to life. A voice crackled through the intercom, breathless and frantic:

“Boss! We have multiple unauthorized surface breaches! Perimeter sensors on the north cliffside are down! They bypassed the biometric grid!”

Ethan’s demeanor shifted instantly from instructor to apex predator. He grabbed a tactical assault rifle from the rack, slamming a fresh magazine into the well with a sharp click.

"Stay behind me," Ethan ordered, grabbing Olivia's wrist. "Viktor didn't send hitmen this time. He sent a clean-up crew."

As they burst through the reinforced steel doors leading back into the manor's main hallways, the sound of shattering glass and heavy automatic gunfire echoed from the grand foyer above. The war for the Caradonna empire had just breached their front door.
