Chapter 7 - Checkmate in Monaco

Seventy-two hours later, the private Gulfstream jet touched down on a private tarmac in Monaco under the cover of a moonless sky.

Ethan Caradonna stepped off the ramp first, flanked by a full tactical detail, his charcoal suit pressed to perfection. Behind him walked Olivia, wearing an emerald-green silk evening gown that contrasted sharply with the concealed holster strapped beneath her left arm.

They marched directly toward the private marine slip where Viktor Caradonna’s luxury superyacht sat dead in the water, its lights flickering helplessly on emergency generator power.

As they crossed the gangplank, a dozen of Viktor’s remaining loyal bodyguards raised their weapons—only to find themselves staring down the barrels of Ethan’s sniper detail positioned on the surrounding rooftops.

"Lower your weapons," a raspy, furious voice commanded from the shadows of the upper deck.

Viktor Caradonna stepped forward. He was an older man with silver hair slicked back and eyes as cold and dead as winter stone. He looked at Ethan, then his gaze shifted to Olivia, and for a split second, color drained entirely from his face.

"Elena..." Viktor breathed, gripping the brass railing. "No... you're dead. The child died twenty-five years ago."

"The child grew up serving coffee to billionaires while you stole an empire," Olivia said, her voice cutting through the salty sea breeze like a razor. She stepped forward, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Ethan. "And now, the bill has come due."

"You think freezing my accounts stops me?" Viktor sneered, a desperate, manic laugh escaping his lips as he reached inside his jacket for a concealed detonator. "I still have loyal men across every continent! I can—"

Crack.

A single sniper round from the rooftop clipped the detonator right out of Viktor’s hand, sending plastic and wiring flying into the dark ocean below.

Before Viktor could react, Ethan crossed the deck in three long strides, grabbed his uncle by the collar of his designer shirt, and slammed him against the yacht's polished mahogany railing, suspending him over the dark, churning waves.

"You killed my mother," Ethan whispered, his voice dangerously low. "You tried to kill my sister. And you thought you could walk away."

Viktor gasped for air, his face turning pale as he looked into the abyss below. "Ethan... wait... we're family..."

"Family pays their debts," Ethan said coldly, before releasing his grip just enough to let Viktor dangle over the water. "And the Caradonna ledger is finally balanced."
