Chapter 1 - The First AvalancheThe phone call ended with a low, metallic click. I placed the device on the cold marble, the screen glowing with a single active connection: my father’s elite crisis operations center.

Adrian’s laughter was nervous now, an anxious tremor vibrating beneath his bravado. "Who was that? Your accountant father? What is an old man living on a pension going to do—write me a sternly worded letter?"
Before I could answer, Adrian’s private smartphone—the one he used exclusively for his offshore shell companies and his secret dealings with Vanessa—let out a sharp, continuous shriek. It wasn't a standard ringtone; it was the emergency override alarm reserved for frozen accounts and federal regulatory freezes.
Adrian snatched it from his pocket, his thumb swiping frantically. "What is this? A glitch... a bank system update..."
His eyes widened until the capillaries burst in the corners. The screen showed zero balances across all six of his corporate accounts, wiping out his liquid capital, payroll funds, and the embezzled corporate reserves he had spent the last year hiding.
Vanessa stood up from the velvet sofa, her champagne glass slipping from her fingers to shatter against the marble floor. "Adrian? What's happening? My app... my consultant dashboard is completely locked out. It says my corporate entity has been dissolved by order of the Federal Financial Crimes Directorate."
"Shut up!" Adrian snarled, his face draining of all color until he looked like a corpse caught in moonlight. He stared down at me, his fingers trembling so violently he could barely hold the phone. "What did you do? Who are you?"
I pushed myself up from the floor, ignoring the burning agony radiating across my back. The leather pendant around my neck felt heavy, the encrypted recorder blinking a tiny, steady blue light.

"You called me provincial, Adrian," I whispered, my voice cutting through the silent, oppressive air of the living room like a scalpel. "You said my father was a retired accountant. But you never asked what kind of empire he built before he retired."
A heavy, synchronized thud echoed from the front of the estate. Then another. The massive, reinforced steel doors of our country mansion—the ones Adrian had locked to trap me inside—began to buckle under the synchronized assault of a tactical battering ram.
