Chapter 5 - The Inheritance of PowerWhile the media circus tore Adrian and Vanessa’s lives to shreds, I sat in the executive suite of Sterling Tower, overlooking the sprawling skyline of the financial district.

My father poured two cups of black coffee, handing one to me across the massive glass desk. His expression was one of quiet pride.

"The board of Vale Enterprises has officially voted to accept our buyout offer," my father said, taking a sip of his coffee. "For the symbolic price of one dollar, their entire asset portfolio now belongs to Sterling Global. And more importantly, to you."

I looked down at the legal documents resting on the desk. My name was signed as the new Chairperson and CEO of what useds to be Adrian’s empire.

"I never wanted his company, Dad," I murmured, watching the morning traffic crawl across the bridges far below. "I only wanted to see how long it would take for his ambition to swallow his sanity."

"Ambition without character is just a slow-acting poison, Elena," my father replied gently, sitting down in the leather chair beside me. "You gave him rope, and he hung himself with it. But now comes the real work. Running an empire requires more than just defense. It requires vision."

My phone chimed on the desk. It was an encrypted message from the federal detention center holding Adrian.

“Please, Elena. Just five minutes of your time. Tell me what I need to do to make this stop.”

I looked at the message, tapped the screen, and blocked the number permanently. There was nothing left to say to a man who had forgotten how to be human.

"Let's call a press conference for this afternoon," I told my father, standing up and buttoning my blazer. "It's time to announce our new corporate restructuring plan—starting with a complete audit of every executive who ever looked the other way."
