Chapter 3 - The Midnight Boardroom ExecutionBy 4:00 AM, the emergency boardroom of Vale Enterprises was brightly lit, but there was no one left to run it.

The board members had received emergency briefings at 3:15 AM, detailing Adrian’s systemic embezzlement, money laundering through Vanessa’s shell company, and the complete revocation of Sterling Global’s credit lines, which had kept Vale Enterprises afloat for the past five years. By 3:45 AM, the board had unanimously voted to strip Adrian of his CEO title, expel him from the company, and hand all remaining assets over to Sterling Global’s liquidation division.

Adrian sat bound to a chair in the center of the boardroom table, his clothes wrinkled, sweat pouring down his forehead. Standing beside him was his lead corporate attorney, Mr. Henderson, who looked like he had aged ten years in twenty minutes.

"Mr. Sterling," Henderson stammered, addressing my father, who sat at the head of the long mahogany table. "Surely we can negotiate a settlement. A Chapter 11 restructuring—"

"There is nothing to restructure, Henderson," my father interrupted, sliding a thick leather-bound dossier across the table. "Your firm has been complicit in falsifying corporate disclosures for eighteen months. Copies of your communication with Adrian regarding the concealment of offshore accounts have already been transmitted to the bar association and the federal prosecutor's office. You have until sunrise to surrender your license."

Henderson stared at the dossier, turned white as a sheet, and silently walked out of the room without saying another word.

Adrian looked up at me, his eyes bloodshot and desperate. He was no longer the arrogant predator who had held the riding crop hours ago. He was a broken man staring into an abyss of his own making.

"Elena... please," Adrian choked out, his voice cracking. "We were married. We loved each other. Drop the charges. Beg your father. I'll give you everything—divorce on your terms, the house, the cars—"

I walked slowly around the table, stopping just a few feet from him. I didn't feel anger anymore; I felt a cold, crystalline clarity.

"You spent two hours teaching me what it meant to have no shield, Adrian," I said quietly, tapping the diamond pendant resting against my collarbone. "You forgot the golden rule of business and marriage: Never underestimate the person who lets you win."

The heavy oak doors swung open, and two federal marshals stepped inside, handcuffs gleaming in the fluorescent lights.

"Adrian Vale," the lead marshal announced, reading from a warrant signed by a federal judge. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, extortion, and interstate wire fraud."
