Chapter 5 - THE EMPIRE'S COLLAPSEThree weeks later, the front pages of national newspapers carried a headline that dismantled one of the country's most untouchable dynasties:

ALARCÓN ESTATE SEIZED BY FEDERAL AUTHORITIES; FORMER DETECTIVE AND MATRIARCH INDICTED IN CHILD ABDUCTION RING.
From his newly restored home—the modest house where he had spent six years keeping Mateo’s bedroom untouched—Daniel sat at his kitchen table, reviewing the final asset forfeiture documents.
Victoria Alarcón was currently sitting in a federal holding facility, awaiting a trial that would guarantee she died behind bars. Her multi-million-dollar fortune was being systematically liquidated to pay restitution to families whose children had been stolen by her trafficking ring.
Cruz was facing forty years in maximum security with no possibility of parole.
The heavy front door opened softly, and footsteps padded across the wooden floor.
Mateo walked into the kitchen, wearing a bright blue shirt, holding the red toy car—its panel now permanently repaired.
"Dad?" Mateo asked quietly.
Daniel looked up, smiling warmly. "What is it, buddy?"
"Can we go visit Mom's garden today? I remembered... I remembered she planted sunflowers there before I left."
May you like
Daniel’s smile widened, his eyes shining with unshed tears of pure joy.
"We can do anything you want, Mateo," Daniel said, standing up and taking his son's hand. "Anything at all."
