Chapter 8 - THE RECKONING IN THE COURTYARDThe remaining mercenaries sent by Vincent never stood a chance. Caught completely off guard in the narrow corridors of the second floor, they were disarmed, zip-tied, and dragged down to the grand foyer within minutes by Lorenzo’s loyal guard.

Vincent was hauled up from the floor by his collar, his expensive suit ruined, his face bruised and bleeding. They threw him onto his knees in the center of the foyer, right beneath the majestic crystal chandelier.

Sophia and little Emma emerged from the secret hallway near the study, guided by Mateo. Sophia held Emma’s hand tightly, her eyes sweeping over the captured traitors and the ruined living room. The nightmare was finally ending, but the weight of what had happened hung heavy in the air.

Lorenzo walked slowly down the stairs, looking down at Vincent with absolute pity and contempt.

“You wanted my empire, Vincent?” Lorenzo said quietly, his voice echoing through the silent mansion. “You can have it.”

Vincent looked up, a glimmer of desperate hope flashing in his eyes. “You... you’re letting me go?”

“No,” Lorenzo replied coldly. “I’m giving you what you deserve.”

He gestured to the enforcers. Without a word, two massive guards hauled Vincent to his feet and dragged him toward the open front doors, out into the pouring rain of the courtyard, where the black execution vans were already pulling up.

Silence descended upon the grand foyer once more.

Lorenzo turned his gaze toward Sophia and Mateo. He walked over, stopping a few feet away from the brave housekeeper and her daughter. The terrifying mafia boss knelt down on one knee, ignoring the dirt and blood on his trousers, until he was eye-level with little Emma.

Emma didn't look scared anymore. She reached out her tiny hand and patted Lorenzo’s bruised cheek.

“Uncle Lorenzo all better now?” she asked innocently.

A rare, genuine smile broke across Lorenzo’s rugged face—a smile that softened the hard lines of a man forged in violence.

“Because of you, little one,” Lorenzo whispered softly, pressing a gentle kiss to the back of her small hand. “Because of you.”
