CHAPTER 5 — The Prison King Makes His Choice

Victor closed his eyes.

For years, every decision he had made served one purpose—

His own survival.

Not today.

He looked at David.

"If they get that envelope..."

"...your father's death will stay buried forever."

David remained silent.

Victor continued.

"But if we keep it..."

"People are going to die."

David slowly unfolded one page from the envelope.

It wasn't a witness statement.

It wasn't a confession.

It was a list of financial transactions.

Millions of dollars.

Hidden accounts.

Payments stretching back over two decades.

Each payment matched the date of a suspicious inmate transfer, unexplained deaths, or missing evidence.

At the bottom of the final page was a single signature.

The current prison warden.

Victor whispered,

"I knew he was dirty..."

"I never imagined it went this high."

David looked directly at him.

"My father wasn't murdered because of one prisoner."

"He was murdered because he discovered an entire organization."

Another explosion echoed somewhere deep inside the prison.

Smoke drifted beneath the door.

The attackers were forcing open security checkpoints.

David made a decision.

He tore the envelope in half.

Victor's eyes widened.

"What are you doing?"

David divided the evidence into two stacks.

"If they catch one of us..."

"The other still has enough to expose them."

Victor stared at him in disbelief.

"You trust me?"

David answered without hesitation.

"My father did."

Those four words hit Victor harder than any punch ever could.

For twenty-four years, guilt had haunted every night of his life.

Now, for the first time...

Someone had offered him trust instead of hatred.

Victor carefully tucked half the documents inside his prison uniform.

"I won't fail him again."

Just then, the reinforced door burst open.

The fake officers stormed inside.

Weapons raised.

The leader smiled coldly.

"It's over."

But before anyone could move...

A loud metallic clang echoed through the corridor.

Another.

Then another.

Every cell door in Cell Block C suddenly opened at once.

Dozens of inmates flooded into the hallway.

Not to attack David...

Not to free Victor...

But to stand shoulder to shoulder between the armed intruders and the two men.

The prison's most feared inmates had made their choice.

For years they had followed Victor because they feared him.

Today...

They followed him because, for the first time, he had chosen to stand for something bigger than himself.

The leader of the fake officers slowly lowered his weapon.

He looked down the corridor filled with determined prisoners.

Then he muttered five chilling words that made David's blood run cold.

"Activate Phase Two immediately."

Somewhere else in the prison...

A far more dangerous plan had already begun.
