CHAPTER 2 — The Secret Nobody Knew

That evening, every housing unit buzzed with the same question.
"Who is Guard Walker?"
The security cameras replayed the incident dozens of times.
Frame by frame.
Even the training instructors couldn't believe it.
David never attacked.
He waited until the exact instant Victor grabbed him.
Then he rotated one step, trapped Victor's wrist, shifted his center of gravity, and allowed physics to do the rest.
The maneuver lasted less than one second.
No wasted motion.
No unnecessary force.
Perfect control.
The prison warden watched the footage three times.
Then he quietly closed his office door.
Because he recognized the technique.
Only a handful of elite tactical instructors in the country taught it.
The next morning, Victor walked through breakfast with bruises on his pride—not his body.
That hurt far more.
His followers expected revenge.
Failure wasn't acceptable.
"You have to make an example of him," one gang member whispered.
Victor nodded.
But inside, doubt had appeared for the first time.
Who was this man?
Later that day, David was escorting supplies through Cell Block C when Victor deliberately blocked the hallway.
Every inmate stopped to watch.
Victor smiled.
"Yesterday..."
"You got lucky."
David calmly answered.
"I don't believe in luck."
Victor stepped closer.
"What are you?"
The guard looked him directly in the eyes.
"A correctional officer."
"No."
Victor shook his head.
"You've fought before."
David remained silent.
That silence became its own answer.
Victor swung.
Not a wild punch.
A fast, experienced strike aimed directly at David's jaw.
Gasps echoed across the hallway.
Again...
Nobody saw David move.
Victor's fist stopped inches from David's face.
His wrist was suddenly locked.
His balance disappeared.
Within seconds, Victor was pinned against the wall.
One hand.
No punches.
No injuries.
Only complete control.
David leaned closer and quietly spoke.
"I'm not here to beat anyone."
"I'm here to make sure everyone goes home alive."
Then he released him.
Just like that.
Victor didn't attack again.
Not because he couldn't.
Because something about those words unsettled him.
That night, an elderly inmate approached Victor's table.
"You know who he is?"
Victor frowned.
"No."
"I served overseas."
"So did he."
Victor laughed.
"A soldier?"
The old inmate slowly shook his head.
"No."
"Worse."
"He trained the soldiers."
Victor stopped smiling.
For the first time...
He realized he might have picked a fight with someone whose past was even darker than his own.
And hidden deep inside David's personnel file...
Locked under federal security clearance...
Was a record so classified that only three people inside the prison had permission to read it.
Its title contained just six words.
Former Special Operations Close Combat Instructor.

Victor had challenged the wrong man.
But he still hadn't learned the most terrifying part of David's past
