Chapter 1 - THE TERROR BENEATH THE CUFFThe private dining room of Manhattan’s most exclusive restaurant plunged into absolute, suffocating silence.

Daniel Brooks’s fingers trembled as he pulled back the fine Italian wool of Lorenzo Moretti’s left shirt cuff. Underneath the bright crystal chandelier, the elite businessmen of Wall Street leaned in, expecting to see a standard medical watch or a minor rash.
Instead, what they saw made several executives step backward in pure horror.
Wrapped tightly around Lorenzo’s left wrist was an industrial-grade, smart-monitoring bio-band. But it wasn't functioning as a tracker anymore. The digital face was flashing a violent, blood-red warning code: CRITICAL INFECTION — SEPSIS PROTOCOL ACTIVE.
Worse still, the titanium band had compressed so deeply into Lorenzo’s swollen flesh that the edges had sliced clean through the skin, turning the surrounding tissue a sickening, necrotic black. Pus and dark blood oozed from the micro-pins embedded directly into his radial artery.
"My God..." Daniel gasped, his face turning ghostly pale. "Lorenzo... what is that thing?!"
Lorenzo couldn't answer. His eyes rolled upward, his lips turning blue as he slipped further into septic shock.
Emily Carter didn't panic. Years of working night shifts in emergency room cafeterias before her nursing license was unjustly stripped away had taught her to recognize the signs of advanced cybernetic rejection syndrome.
"He’s going into anaphylactic septic shock," Emily declared firmly, stepping past the paralyzed executives. "Someone clear the table! Now!"
"Who the hell do you think you are?!" shouted Howard Vance, Lorenzo’s chief corporate rival, slamming his hands onto the table. "She’s just a waitress! Call an ambulance and get her out of here—"
"If you wait for an ambulance, he will be dead in four minutes," Emily snapped, her voice cutting through the panic like a scalpel. She grabbed a silver butter knife from the table, flipped it, and used the blunt edge to wedge beneath the locking mechanism of the titanium bio-band. "His body is rejecting the experimental neural-link implant. The device is pumping a localized neurotoxin directly into his bloodstream."

Daniel stared at Emily, his eyes wide with desperate realization. "You... you knew."
"I knew he was looking at his wrist every two minutes because the subcutaneous alert was vibrating against his bone," Emily said, applying pressure to the latch. "Hold his arm steady, Daniel! If this band doesn't come off right now, his hand goes necrotic!"
