With a sharp mechanical snap, the titanium bio-band released its death grip on Lorenzo’s wrist.
Emily instantly flung the toxic device across the room, where it hit the mahogany wall and sparked violently before going dead.
Lorenzo let out a long, ragged gasp, his chest heaving as air rushed back into his lungs. He slumped forward, drenched in cold sweat, his eyes half-open as he looked up at Emily through a haze of pain.
"E... Emily..." Lorenzo whispered, his voice cracking.
"Don't talk," Emily instructed softly, pressing a clean linen napkin against the bleeding wounds on his wrist to stem the hemorrhage. "Your heart rate is stabilizing, but you need an emergency blood transfusion immediately."
Within minutes, the restaurant's private security escorted paramedics into the room. Lorenzo was strapped onto a gurney, his pale face reflecting the flashing red lights of the ambulance outside.
As the paramedics wheeled him toward the exit, Lorenzo weakly reached out from the gurney, his fingers catching the edge of Emily’s apron.
"Ride... with me," Lorenzo murmured, his hazel eyes locking onto hers with desperate plea. "Please..."

Daniel Brooks stepped up quickly, pulling a heavy black Amex card and a gold business card from his pocket, pressing them into Emily’s hand. "Miss Carter, please. Name your price. Come with us to Manhattan General. You just saved his life."
Emily looked down at the cards, then at the ambulance doors. She unclipped her apron, dropped it onto the floor, and nodded. "Let's go."
