The private terrace of Lorenzo’s coastal estate in the Hamptons overlooked the glittering expanse of the Atlantic Ocean at sunset.
The waves crashed softly against the rocks below.
Emily stood by the glass railing, wearing a simple white sundress, holding a cup of tea.
Footsteps sounded behind her. Strong, familiar arms slid around her waist, pulling her flush against a warm, solid chest. Lorenzo rested his chin gently on her shoulder, breathing in the scent of her hair.
"Penny for your thoughts, Dr. Carter?" Lorenzo murmured, his voice rich and intimate.
Emily smiled, leaning back against him and resting her hands over his arms. "I was just thinking about how crazy it is that I used to serve you coffee."
"And I was thinking about how lucky I am that you noticed my wrist," Lorenzo replied softly. He turned her slowly in his arms, looking down into her eyes with a deep, consuming devotion.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a breathtaking, custom-designed diamond ring surrounded by a delicate band of platinum shaped like interlocking medical threads.
"Emily," Lorenzo whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I built an empire, but I spent my whole life surrounded by people who only loved my money. You looked past the billionaire, saw a man in pain, and saved my life. Will you stay by my side... not as my employee, not as my guest... but as my wife?"
Emily looked at the ring, then up into the hazel eyes of the man who had fought heaven and earth to restore her dignity.
"Yes, Lorenzo," she whispered happily. "Yes."
