Chapter 5 - THE HIDDEN DOSSIERBy 3:00 AM, Lorenzo’s private penthouse suite atop the Moretti Tower was transformed into an impromptu command center.

Daniel Brooks poured a cup of black coffee, handing it to Emily, who was sitting across from Lorenzo at a massive mahogany desk.

"Dr. Richard Vance slipped out of the hospital through the loading dock before federal agents arrived," Daniel reported, tossing a thick manila folder onto the desk. "But our cyber-security team seized his office computer. Look at this."

Lorenzo opened the folder. Inside were digital bank transfer receipts totaling five million dollars—originating from Vance Global Enterprises, owned by Howard Vance.

"My cousin Howard," Lorenzo muttered, his jaw clenching so hard a vein throbbed on his temple. "He wanted my shares in the upcoming quantum merger. If the bio-band had killed me tonight, Howard would have taken control of the entire board by morning."

Lorenzo looked up from the documents, fixing his dark hazel eyes entirely on Emily.

"You saved my life twice tonight, Emily," Lorenzo said softly. "First by recognizing the bio-band malfunction, and second by stopping Richard from amputating my hand."

"Anyone with basic emergency training would have seen it," Emily replied, looking away modestly.

"No," Lorenzo corrected, leaning forward across the desk. "Most people would have walked away after the way I treated you at that table. I was arrogant. Cold. Cruel."

"You were a billionaire having a bad day," Emily said with a slight smirk. "I'm used to dealing with arrogant men."

Lorenzo’s lips curved into a warm, genuine smile. "I want to make it up to you. Name anything you want—money, a restaurant, a home—it's yours."

"I don't want your money, Mr. Moretti," Emily said steadily, standing up from her chair. "I want my nursing license back."
