Chapter 7 - The Final ConfrontationThe lead thug sneered, pressing the barrel of a silenced pistol against the side of the little girl's head. "One step closer, Bennett, and the girl takes the fall. Julian sends his regards."

Marcus raised his weapon, lining up a clean, precise shot on the second thug's shoulder. "Take the shot, Alex? Or wait?"
Alexander’s mind raced at lightspeed. Years of corporate warfare, military strategy, and personal grief converged into a single, razor-sharp focus. He lowered his weapon slightly, gesturing with an open palm.
"You're a professional," Alexander said, his voice dropping into a calm, hypnotic register designed to disarm hostile combatants. "Julian is paying you a retainer. But how much is he paying you to take the fall when this goes public? Julian is cleaning house. The moment you walk out that door with my daughter, a sniper team he stationed on the opposite roof will eliminate both of you to tie up loose ends. Check your earpiece. Call him right now and ask him what his contingency plan is for 'asset disposal'."
The thug's eyes flicked nervously toward his partner. Doubt crept into the man's posture. He tapped his comm piece, muttering under his breath, "Boss... Boss, Bennett is here. Do we... do we proceed?"
Silence stretched over the warehouse for three agonizing seconds. Then, a cold, distorted voice filtered through the thug's open earpiece: 'Eliminate them all. Leave no witnesses.'
The thug's face drained of color.
Marcus didn't wait. Bang. His suppressed pistol barked once, striking the second thug cleanly in the shoulder and sending his weapon clattering across the concrete floor.
At the same time, Alexander lunged forward with terrifying speed, tackling the lead thug before he could pull the trigger. They crashed hard against a stack of wooden pallets. Alexander drove a brutal right hook into the man's jaw, sending him unconscious to the floor in a heap.
The little girl stumbled backward, tripping over a discarded tarp, falling hard onto a pile of packing foam.
Alexander dropped to his knees, his hands shaking as he reached out. "Hey... hey, look at me. It's okay. You're safe now."
The little girl shrank back against the wall, her chest heaving with frightened breaths. But as she looked up into his face—into his eyes, softening with an overwhelming tide of paternal love—the fear in her gaze melted away.

"You look like Thomas," she whispered, her small hand reaching out to touch his cheek. "You're... you're my daddy."
"Yes," Alexander choked out, tears finally breaking free and tracking through the soot on his face. "I'm your daddy. And I am never, ever letting you go."
