Chapter 8 - Awakening the PastForty-eight hours later, the penthouse suite of Bennett Enterprises was filled with the soft hum of medical equipment and the warm glow of morning sunlight.

Nurse Martha Higgins sat in a comfortable armchair by the window, a bandage wrapped neatly around her forehead, sipping hot chamomile tea. On the sofa nearby, eight-year-old Thomas sat side by side with his newly found twin sister, whose scrubbed face, clean clothes, and soft, brushed hair revealed an unmistakable, mirror-image resemblance to the portraits of Catherine hanging in the gallery.

"Her name is Chloe," Martha explained softly, looking across the room at Alexander, who stood by the fireplace holding a secure satellite phone. "Your father wanted her placed in a rural foster system upstate under a false identity, far away from the Bennett name. But I couldn't do it, Alex. I forged my own disappearance, took her in, and raised her in secret using the emergency stipend I managed to siphon from your father's private accounts before he had me fired."

Alexander walked over, kneeling beside the elderly nurse, taking her calloused hand in his. "You saved my daughter's life, Martha. And for that, you have my eternal gratitude. Whatever you need—protection, financial security, a home—it is yours for the rest of your days."

Before Martha could reply, the heavy double doors of the penthouse swung open.

Standing in the doorway, flanked by federal marshals and local authorities, was Julian Bennett. His tailored suit was wrinkled, his gold-rimmed glasses slightly askew, and the arrogant smirk that had defined his corporate dominance was completely gone.

"It's over, Julian," Alexander said, walking forward to stand face-to-face with his uncle. "The federal indictment for corporate fraud, illegal detainment, medical falsification, and kidnapping has already been signed by the Attorney General. Your assets are frozen. Your board seats are revoked."

Julian let out a hollow, bitter laugh, his eyes darting toward Chloe before fixing on Alexander. "You think you've won, Alex? You think destroying me saves your family? Look at the files in that safe again. Read the final medical addendum your father tried to burn."

Alexander’s expression hardened. "What are you talking about?"

"Catherine," Julian whispered with a chilling, triumphant grin. "She wasn't just kept in a Swiss sanatorium, nephew. Your father didn't want her dead—he wanted her compliant. They subjected her to experimental neurological suppression therapies to erase her memory of you, of Thomas, of everything."

Alexander’s blood ran cold. "Where is she?"

"She was released from the facility yesterday morning," Julian said smoothly, stepping back as the marshals cuffed his wrists. "Before we were raided. She's on a private flight right now, landing at JFK airport in less than twenty minutes. But here's the best part, Alex... she doesn't remember who you are. To her, you're just another stranger in a tailored suit."
