Chapter 19 - Epilogue — The New Portfolio

One year later, Vanguard Media & Capital reached a historic milestone.

Our quarterly earnings report showed a record-breaking forty percent year-over-year growth, cementing our position as one of the most resilient tech-media firms on the eastern seaboard. Industry profiles featured my face on the cover of Forbes, highlighting our innovative corporate governance and ironclad security protocols.

Daniel Whitmore was currently residing in a maximum-security federal correctional facility in upstate New York, serving a collective twenty-year sentence for white-collar fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy. Vanessa Cole had long since faded into obscurity, her social media presence wiped clean, her expensive tastes reduced to institutional gray uniforms and regulated commissary limits.

And me?

I had bought a brownstone in Brooklyn, planted a small garden in the backyard, and learned how to trust my own instincts without second-guessing every choice.

On a quiet Sunday evening, Dad and I sat on my back patio, sharing a bottle of vintage Bordeaux as the sun dipped below the Manhattan skyline.

“You know, Em,” Dad said, swirling his glass thoughtfully, “you handled that entire ordeal better than most veteran forensic accountants ever could.”

“I had a good teacher,” I smiled, clinking my glass against his.

“The best,” Dad agreed, his eyes twinkling with quiet pride.
