Chapter 10 - THE FIELD OF WHITE FLOWERSThree years later.

The Tuscan spring had arrived in a breathtaking explosion of color. The hillsides were blanketed in vibrant green grass, dotted with wild poppies, lavender, and endless acres of blooming white daisies.

A six-year-old girl with dark curls, solemn brown eyes, and an unmistakable aura of quiet confidence ran through the tall grass, her bright yellow dress fluttering in the warm breeze.

“Catch me if you can, Papa!” Lily shouted over her shoulder, her silvery laughter ringing out across the valley.

Adrian stood a few yards away, watching her with a profound, unshakeable peace in his eyes. He wasn't the ruthless syndicate boss who once ruled Chicago with an iron fist, nor was he the broken, haunted widower standing beside a white carnation-covered casket.

He was a father.

He broke into a run, his long strides eating up the distance between them. With a joyful laugh, he scooped Lily up into his arms, spinning her around in circles as she shrieked with delight, her little arms wrapped tightly around his neck.

As he set her back down on her feet, Lily pointed toward the horizon where the sun was beginning to dip below the Mediterranean hills, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold, rose, and violet.

“Look, Papa!” she cried, pointing at a vast, pristine patch of white wildflowers swaying gently in the evening wind. “Just like your dream!”

Adrian looked down at his daughter, then out across the endless sea of white blossoms that stretched as far as the eye could see.

The winter was gone. The storm had passed. And for the first time in his life, Adrian Vale felt entirely, perfectly home.
