Chapter 5 - THE GHOST RETURNSA massive, armored black SUV smashed through the rotting wooden side-gates of the warehouse, its high-beam headlights blinding everyone in the room. The vehicle skidded across the slick concrete floor, kicking up a storm of dust and debris, and slammed directly into the side of the container wall, cutting off Marcus’s escape route.

The passenger door flew open, and a figure dropped heavily to the ground.

It was Thomas Kane.

His face was marred by jagged burn scars along the left jawline, and his left arm was wrapped in a tight tactical bandage, but his eyes burned with fierce, unyielding fury. In his hands, he held a heavy riot shotgun.

“Drop the weapon, Marcus!” Thomas roared, racking the slide with a sharp, metallic clack.

Marcus’s face twisted in sheer disbelief. “Thomas? You son of a bitch... you should have burned in that ravine!”

“I survived for one reason only,” Thomas shouted, taking a steady step forward. “To watch you pay for what you did to Evelyn.”

Marcus’s eyes darted between Thomas and Adrian. Realizing he was outpositioned and outnumbered by two men who wanted him dead, a cunning, desperate smile crept across his lips.

“You think killing me solves anything, Adrian?” Marcus mocked, his finger tightening on his own trigger. “The entire syndicate voted on the restructuring months ago. Even if I die, my captains take over. Your shipping ports, your construction contracts, your safe houses—they belong to my network now. You’re bankrupt, Adrian. You’re standing in a ruin.”

Adrian didn't blink. He shifted Lily slightly in his arms, whispering a soft, protective shooing sound against her hair.

“I don't give a damn about the empire, Marcus,” Adrian said softly.

Marcus frowned. “What?”

“I spent eight months believing I had lost everything,” Adrian continued, taking a slow, deliberate step toward his former best friend. “I lived in hell because I thought my bloodline had been wiped out by a rival. But I was wrong. I have my daughter. And you... you have nothing.”

Marcus raised his pistol in a blind rage, screaming, “Die, you arrogant bastard!”

BOOM.

Thomas’s shotgun roared first.

The heavy buckshot slammed into Marcus’s shoulder, spinning him violently around and sending his Beretta clattering across the concrete floor. Before Marcus could hit the ground, Adrian closed the distance, holstered his pistol, and delivered a devastating, bone-crushing right hook that knocked Marcus out cold.

The warehouse fell into a profound, suffocating silence, broken only by the steady patter of rain against the roof and the soft, rhythmic breathing of baby Lily sleeping peacefully against her father's chest.
