Chapter 6 - THE CRACK IN THE EMPIREThe silence that followed Julian’s words was so profound you could hear the distant hum of the city outside.

Serena Bell staggered back as if she had been physically struck, her face flushing crimson with humiliation and shock. "Dante! Did you hear what that—that little bastard—"
"I heard him," Dante rasped, his eyes locked onto Julian.
He was staring at his son—truly staring at him for the first time. He saw the sharp, unyielding line of his jaw. He saw the cold, predatory intelligence flashing behind those dark eyes. There was no doubt left in Dante’s mind; those children were undeniably, fiercely Russo.
"Evelyn," Dante said, his voice dropping an octave as he stepped toward her, ignoring Serena completely. "We need to talk. Privately. In my office upstairs. We can fix—"
"Fix what, Dante?" Evelyn interrupted, tilting her head with a chilling smile. "The marriage you threw in the trash? The family you abandoned for a mistress and a boy who isn't even yours?"
Serena shrieked, "How dare you!"
"Quiet, Serena," Dante barked without looking at her, his eyes never leaving Evelyn. "You don't understand how things work. In my world, power requires hard choices. I made a mistake—"
"A mistake?" Evelyn’s voice cut through the air like a razor. "No, Dante. A mistake is forgetting your keys. Choosing a side piece and casting aside your own flesh and blood is a choice. And tonight, you get to live with the consequences of that choice."
She turned to Harold, who gave a subtle nod and pulled a thick manila folder from his jacket, stepping forward to drop it onto the podium beside Dante.
Dante frowned, opening the folder. As his eyes scanned the first page, the color drained entirely from his face.
"What is this?" Dante whispered, his hands trembling.
"That," Evelyn said softly, stepping closer so only he could hear, "is a complete audit of every front company, offshore account, and cartel connection you’ve built over the last ten years. Harold didn't just hide us, Dante. While you were busy playing kingpin, Harold spent three years systematically downloading, tracking, and legally seizing control of your primary assets through shell corporations registered in my children's names."
Dante’s head snapped up, pure horror in his eyes. He looked at Harold, then back at Evelyn. "You... you audited me? You stole my empire?"
"I didn't steal anything," Evelyn corrected smoothly. "You signed a prenuptial agreement twenty years ago—remember? Clause 14: Any gross infidelity or abandonment of primary heirs results in the immediate forfeiture of ninety percent of the corporate holdings to the aggrieved party."

She leaned in, her eyes burning with a triumphant fire.
"You gave me the house, the security, and the accounts, Dante. You said it yourself on the porch three years ago: 'You’ll be fine.' You just forgot to check whose name was on the fine print."
