Chapter 25 - The Long Flight SouthThe Gulfstream IV punched through the cloud layer over the equator at Mach 0.85, the cabin pressurized to a heavy, artificial silence that felt like the bottom of the sea.

Dante sat in the leather swivel chair by the forward bulkhead, the red ledger resting open on his knees. He hadn't spoken a word since takeoff from the Greek airstrip twelve hours ago. His eyes moved methodically down the columns of figures—names, dates, account numbers, and routing codes that traced every stolen dollar back to the central vaults of the family empire.
Across the aisle, Paolo was cleaning his Sig Sauer with a strip of oiled flannel, his movements precise and unhurried.
"The flight plan has us touching down at Carrasco International just before dawn," Paolo said quietly, not looking up from the slide assembly. "Local contact in Montevideo is a man named Silva. Former naval intelligence. He has a safe house three blocks from Calle Caramurú and two cars waiting on the tarmac."
"We don't need a safe house," Dante said, his voice flat. "We're not staying long enough to unpack."
"You want to hit the villa in daylight?" Paolo asked, finally raising his eyes. "Calle Caramurú is an open neighborhood. Wealthy expatriates, diplomatic guards, local police patrols every twenty minutes. If we go in with guns drawn, the Uruguayan authorities will have us locked in a military holding cell before breakfast."
"We aren't going in with guns drawn," Dante said, closing the red ledger with a sharp thud that echoed through the cabin. "We're going in to have a conversation."

Paolo stared at him for three seconds, then let out a low, humorless grunt. "A conversation with a man who faked his own death, stole half your family's portfolio, and tried to murder your wife?"
"My uncle is an old man," Dante said, standing up and buttoning his heavy coat. "He likes his mackerel fresh in the morning. I'm just going to remind him that some debts can't be washed away by changing your name and moving across the equator."
