Chapter 1 - THE BREACH OF THE CASTLE

The solid oak and wrought-iron front door—custom-built to project an image of unassailable wealth and impregnable security—splintered inward with a deafening crash. Heavy oak framing gave way under a synchronized, calculated breach.

"Federal Marshals! Nobody move!"

The tactical team flooded the pristine marble foyer of the Caldwell residence like a wave of dark tide. Heavy combat boots stomped across the pristine floors, scattering the decorative pine needles and shattering the expensive porcelain ornaments near the doorway.

Sylvia Caldwell shrieked, her hands flying to her mouth as she stumbled backward against the mahogany console table, sending a crystal bowl crashing to the floor. Her face had drained of every drop of color, leaving her looking like a marble bust herself.

David stood frozen, the smartphone still clutched in his slick, trembling hand. The low, resonant voice of Chief Justice Robert Sterling was still audible, echoing faintly from the speaker on the kitchen floor where it had fallen.

"Clear the hall! Secure the perimeter!" barked a tall, weathered supervisory marshal with a silver badge gleaming sharply under the chandelier. His eyes swept the room, instantly assessing threats, locking onto David with a gaze as devoid of warmth as deep-sea ice.

"Sir—wait, you can't just—this is private property!" David stammered, his legal arrogance completely liquefied into sheer panic. He took a half-step forward, lifting a hand defensively. "I’m an officer of the court! I demand to see a warrant!"

The lead marshal didn’t even blink. He closed the distance between them in two swift strides, his hand resting casually near his sidearm. "Officer of what court, Counselor? Right now, you're the primary subject of an federal intervention ordered directly by the Chambers of the Chief Justice of the United States. Hands where I can see them."

Before David could utter another protest, two tactical officers bypassed him, moving with practiced, fluid precision toward the kitchen archway where I lay sprawled against the white tile floor, clutching my aching stomach.
