Chapter 5 - THE MEDEVAC ESCAPE

The sharp, rhythmic thrum of helicopter blades began to vibrate through the roof tiles, shaking the Christmas decorations and drowning out the remaining protests in the room.
"Medical transport is on station in the backyard," the lead marshal announced into his radio. "Clear the patio! Moving the patient now."
Two paramedics hoisted the specialized trauma gurney, lifting me carefully from the cold white tile. I kept my eyes closed, the waves of pain receding slightly into a dull, throbbing ache, but my mind was hyper-clear. I looked up just once as they wheeled me past David.
He was slumped against the stainless-steel refrigerator, completely hollowed out. His expensive designer suit was rumpled, his hair disheveled, and his eyes wide with the horrifying realization that his entire fabricated empire had been dismantled in less than ten minutes by a man he had foolishly underestimated.
"Anna—wait! Please, talk to them! Tell them it was a mistake!" David lunged forward, desperate to grab the edge of the gurney, but a federal marshal’s forearm barred his path like a steel beam.
"Back up, Counselor," the marshal growled.
"Anna! Please! We're a family!" David cried, his voice breaking into a pathetic whine as the neighborhood outside filled with the blinding, flashing red-and-blue strobes of arriving federal and local backup units.
I didn't say a word. I simply looked at him—not with hatred, not even with anger anymore, but with the cold, absolute pity of someone watching a stranger destroy himself.

The medics wheeled me out through the shattered front door into the brisk December night air. The powerful downdraft from the hovering black-and-white federal medevac helicopter whipped my hair around my face. The giant white letters U.S. GOVERNMENT emblazoned on the fuselage gleamed under the searchlights.
As they loaded me safely inside the cabin, secured the straps, and the doors sealed shut against the howling wind, I knew my old life was entirely gone. But as the aircraft lifted smoothly into the night sky, soaring toward Washington and the absolute protection of a father who ruled the law itself, I knew a far more terrifying reckoning was just beginning for everyone who had ever wronged me.
