Chapter 4 - THE INTERSECTION OF LIVESTwo days later, Abby took the twins to the hospital for a check-up. As she walked through the halls, a woman with piercing, weary eyes and hair pulled back in a tight bun strode past them.

"Dr. Hale?" Abby called out, her heart racing.
The woman stopped and turned. The resemblance to Edward was undeniable, but where Edward looked like a man haunted by the past, Clara looked like a woman who had burned her past to the ground.

"Your father," Abby started, but Clara’s expression shifted from professional to glacial ice.
"If he sent you," Clara said, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper, "tell him that his money can’t buy his way back into a life he destroyed. I don't care if he’s dying or if he’s hit rock bottom. I am not his redemption."
