Chapter 6 - THE ASHES OF AN EMPIREThe heavy silence that settled back over the bridal suite felt cleansing. The smell of expensive white lilies no longer felt suffocating; instead, it felt like the sweet scent of victory.

Marcus remained in the room, standing quietly by the shattered doorway while my attorney packed up the legal documents into his briefcase.
“The board is waiting downstairs for your official address, Madam CEO,” Marcus said quietly, his tone respectful and cautious. “The hostile takeover is complete. Vance Global Holdings is officially under your control. But… there is one complication you need to know about.”
I turned around, setting my glass down on the mahogany desk. “What kind of complication, Marcus?”
Marcus reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a heavy, old-fashioned brass key attached to a faded red ribbon. It looked ancient, completely out of place among the ultra-modern tech of the penthouse.
“Before my brother—your father-in-law—passed away or got himself arrested, he left strict instructions in a private, encrypted vault that only activates upon the complete collapse of the executive branch,” Marcus explained, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “It’s the original deed to the old Vance estate on Blackwood Island—the place where the family empire actually began fifty years ago.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Blackwood Island? I thought that place burned down in a mysterious fire decades ago.”
“That’s what the public was told,” Marcus corrected, stepping closer and placing the heavy brass key gently on the desk. “The truth is, the estate is still standing. And according to the encrypted files attached to this key, your father’s shipping disaster wasn't just a corporate hit. It was orchestrated out of that very island house.”
A cold shiver ran down my spine, replacing the warm glow of victory with a sharp, renewed edge of danger.

“So the game isn't over yet,” I whispered, looking down at the antique key.
“Far from it,” Marcus replied grimly. “Dominic was just the bait. The real puppet master is still out there, watching every move we make.”
