Chapter 9 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYALThe wind howled fiercely across the cliffs, whipping the heavy fog around us like a shroud. The revelation hung in the air, heavy and suffocating.

“Arms trafficking?” I repeated, the pieces of the puzzle suddenly snapping into a terrifying, massive picture. “The shipping company wasn’t just laundering money or evading taxes… they were running an international weapons ring.”
“And they are still operating,” Elena said, her voice dropping to a urgent whisper. “Right here. Underneath this very estate. The federal raid on Dominic was just a distraction. The real syndicate leaders knew you were coming, and they used Dominic’s arrogant obsession with you to lure you out here into the open.”
Before Marcus or I could process the warning, a sharp, metallic click echoed from the treeline behind us.
Clack. Clack.
Dozens of red laser dots suddenly appeared, painting the walls of the boathouse and our chests in glowing crimson light. From the dense fog, a dozen masked figures emerged, dressed in tactical black gear and holding automatic weapons.
Stepping out from the center of the armed group was a tall man wearing a sleek silver mask that covered the upper half of his face. But even through the mask, the arrogant posture and the cold, mocking smile were unmistakable.
“Well, well, well,” a smooth, chilling voice rang out across the clearing. “Look who decided to join our family reunion.”

Marcus froze, his eyes widening in sheer horror as he recognized the voice. “No… that’s impossible. You died in the federal explosion ten years ago!”
The masked man let out a low, amused chuckle, slowly reaching up and removing the silver mask to reveal the face of the man everyone thought was dead—Jonathan Vance, the patriarch of the family and the ultimate mastermind behind every tragedy in our lives.
