Chapter 8 - The Verdict of SilenceSix Months Later.

The Federal Supreme Court in Washington D.C. was packed to maximum capacity.
Dozens of high-ranking military officials, politicians, corrupt judges, and corporate executives sat in the defendant stalls, surrounded by federal marshals. Among them, sitting in the front row in orange prison jumpsuits, were Marcus Sterling, his eight sons, and Victor Vance. Their assets had been liquidated, their political shields shattered, and their lives completely undone by the contents of the ledger.
At the prosecutor’s table stood Major Sarah Vance. Behind her, sitting in the public gallery, was Arthur.
He was dressed in a pristine, dark-blue dress uniform—his medals and rank insignia returned to him, shining under the grand lights of the courtroom. Sitting beside him, holding his arm tightly, was Tessa.
She wore a elegant cream-colored dress. The bruises were gone, her skin radiant and full of life. And cradled in a soft wool blanket in her arms was a healthy, three-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright, curious eyes.
The presiding Judge slammed his gavel down, the heavy sound echoing off the marble walls.
"In the matter of the United States versus Sterling, Vance, and Associated Syndicate Entities," the Judge announced, his voice booming through the room. "In light of the indisputable evidence, the military ledger, and the testimony provided... this court finds all twenty-four defendants guilty on all counts of treason, murder, conspiracy, and racketeering."
Gasps and frantic murmurs broke out across the gallery.
Marcus Sterling stood up, his face red with fury, clutching the wooden bar in front of him. "This is a farce! I built this country's defense infrastructure! You can't do this to me! Arthur! Tell them! Tell them who I am!"
Arthur didn't react. He didn't even look at Marcus. He gently adjusted the blanket around his sleeping son, giving all his attention to his family.
"The defendants," the Judge continued coldly, "are sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole at the ADX Florence maximum-security facility. Court is adjourned."
BANG!
The gavel struck one final time.
As the marshals dragged Marcus, Victor, and the eight brothers out of the courtroom in heavy chains, Marcus screamed Arthur’s name, cursing him until the heavy oak doors slammed shut, silencing his voice forever.
Arthur, Tessa, and Sarah walked out of the Supreme Court building together into the bright, warm afternoon sunshine. Dozens of news cameras flashed, reporters shouting questions from behind the security barricades, but Arthur walked past them all without a word.
They reached a quiet black sedan waiting at the curb.
Sarah smiled at her brother, pulling him into a tight embrace. "It’s completely finished, Arthur. The Syndicate is dismantled. Every single one of them is gone."
"Thank you, Sarah," Arthur said softly, hugging her back.
Sarah leaned down to kiss her nephew's forehead before stepping into her own staff car and driving away.
Arthur opened the passenger door for Tessa, helping her settle comfortably into the seat with their baby. He closed the door, walked around to the driver's side, and got behind the wheel.
Tessa looked over at him, her eyes shining with absolute peace. "Where are we going now, Chief?" she asked with a soft, beautiful smile.
Arthur reached across the console, taking her hand into his, weaving his fingers through hers.
"Home, Tessa," Arthur said, starting the engine. "We’re finally going home."

As the sedan pulled away from the grand steps of the Capitol, driving toward a quiet, sunny horizon, Arthur looked in the rearview mirror one last time.
The storm was finally over. The soldier had finished his war.
