Chapter 10 - The Unshakable Foundation
Six months passed, and the brutal winter gave way to the vibrant, blooming greens of a Pacific Northwest spring. The scars of that terrifying night slowly faded from the estate, though the memory of Sarah remained a quiet, guiding presence in every corner of the house.
Nathan had stepped down from his active surgical schedule at the Seattle medical center, transitioning into a consulting role that allowed him to work from his home office while raising three children. The massive glass mansion, once a monument to his isolation, was now filled with the chaotic, beautiful sounds of infant cries, toddler laughter, and little footsteps running down the wooden hallways.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, Nathan sat on the back patio overlooking the snow-capped mountains, watching Lily teach the twins how to stack wooden blocks on the lawn.
Lily suddenly stopped, looking down at her wrist with a serious expression. She walked over to Nathan, holding out a small, shiny toy bracelet she had found in her toy box.
"Uncle Nathan, you need to wear this so you remember us when you work," she said solemnly, trying to slip the plastic pink band over his massive wrist.
Nathan smiled, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. He gently took the plastic bracelet and slipped it over his wrist right next to Sarah’s silver heirloom.

"I'll never forget you, Lily," Nathan whispered, pulling her into his lap and kissing the top of her blond head. "Never."
He looked out over the endless horizon of mountains, feeling a profound peace settle deep within his chest. The lies were buried, the debt was paid, and the bloodline of the Pierce family was safe. He had lost a sister, but in the darkest storm of his life, he had found his true purpose.
