Chapter 19 - The Family Court Verdict

Two weeks later, the family court hearing in Seattle lasted less than twenty minutes.

Eleanor Vance wasn't even present in the courtroom; she was currently being held in a federal detention center awaiting trial for racketeering, conspiracy, and financial fraud. The judge, presented with overwhelming evidence of Eleanor’s criminal ties and her complete lack of familial relationship with the children, formally and permanently granted full, uncontested legal guardianship of Lily, Ethan, and Owen to Dr. Nathan Pierce.

As Nathan stepped out of the courthouse into the bright spring sunshine, a flock of reporters shouted questions from behind the metal barricades, but he ignored them all, pulling his sunglasses down and walking straight to his waiting car.

Waiting in the back seat were Lily and the twins, laughing as Rosa handed them juice boxes.

Nathan climbed into the driver's seat, turning back to look at his niece. "Well, kiddo. Looks like we're officially stuck with each other."

Lily grinned, holding up her plastic pink bracelet proudly. "I told you so, Uncle Nathan."

As the car merged onto the highway leading back toward the Cascade Mountains, Nathan felt a profound sense of peace settle over him. The glass mansion was no longer a cage of isolation; it was a fortress of love, survival, and family.
