Chapter 4 - The Tables Turn Inside the CourtroomThree weeks later, Courtroom 402 of the Federal District Court was packed to the gills. The case had become an overnight national sensation: The Golden Cage Conspiracy. The media had dubbed Elena "The Phoenix Analyst," following the leaked details of her harrowing escape and the staggering multi-million-dollar corruption empire she had single-handedly uncovered.

Ethan Carter sat at the defense table, looking unrecognizable. His tailored suit was wrinkled, his hair unstyled, and the arrogant smirk that had once defined his face was replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated panic. His parents, Linda and Robert, sat beside him, flanked by three high-priced defense attorneys who were sweating through their collars.

Judge Harrison, a formidable woman with a reputation for mercilessly dismantling corporate criminals and domestic abusers alike, adjusted her spectacles and looked down at the stacked files.

"The court has reviewed the evidence provided by the state, along with the automated corporate ledger backups released by Mrs. Elena Carter," Judge Harrison announced, her voice ringing clear and authoritative through the silent courtroom. "We have clear video evidence from the hallway security camera that Robert Carter blocked the victim's escape, that Linda Carter inflicted grievous bodily harm with a weapon, and that Ethan Carter willfully denied medical assistance while actively celebrating a crime."

One of Ethan’s defense attorneys leaped to his feet. "Your Honor, we move to dismiss! These charges of attempted murder are overblown! This was a private domestic dispute—a marital correction gone slightly awry! The state has no right to interfere in family matters!"

A collective gasp echoed through the public gallery. Even the stenographer stopped typing for a fraction of a second.

Before the judge could speak, the heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom swung open.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

The rhythmic, steady tap of a medical crutch hit the polished marble floor. Every head turned.

Elena walked down the center aisle. She was wearing a sharp, charcoal-gray business suit custom-tailored to accommodate her walking cast. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek, flawless ponytail, and her expression was mask-like in its terrifying serenity. She didn't look like a victim anymore. She looked like an executioner.
