Chapter 5 - The Testimony of the PhoenixElena stopped at the witness stand, taking the oath with a voice that didn't tremble once. When invited to give her statement, she turned her gaze directly toward her husband.

"For seven years," Elena began, her voice carrying effortlessly across the courtroom, "I believed that my education, my career, and my salary were my armor. I thought that because I earned three hundred thousand dollars a year, I was an equal partner in my marriage."
She turned her cold, piercing eyes toward Linda Carter, who flinched and looked away.
"I was wrong. In their eyes, no matter how much money I brought home, I was an asset to be managed, a servant to be beaten, and a vessel to be broken when I dared to voice an independent thought. On that night, when my mother-in-law shattered my leg with a rolling pin because I refused to apologize for sitting in her favorite chair, my husband looked at me not with horror, but with irritation. He told me that women need to be put in their place."
Ethan’s face drained of what little color it had left. He opened his mouth, whispering frantically to his lawyer, but his attorney simply shook his head, knowing the case was entirely unwinnable.
"They thought leaving me on that cold kitchen floor would silence me permanently," Elena continued, stepping slightly closer to the judge's bench. "They thought I would crawl into the mud and die quietly, letting them sweep my body under the rug along with their embezzled millions. But they made one fatal miscalculation."

She paused, letting the silence build to a deafening crescendo.
"They forgot that when you trap a financial analyst with access to your corporate secrets, you aren't just locking up a wife—you are locking yourself in a room with your own ticking time bomb."
