Chapter 6 - THE BETRAYAL WITHINThe name on the document wasn’t a hired hitman, nor was it a corrupt board member. It belonged to someone Daniel trusted implicitly—someone who had stood by his side through every trial, every court battle, and every dark night of his exile.

"David..." Daniel whispered, the name tasting like ash in his mouth.

David Vance—his cousin, his childhood confidant, and the current Chief Operating Officer of Vance Global’s international division. The very person who had supposedly helped smuggle Daniel out of the country five years ago when the police were hunting him.

Marcus crossed his arms, leaning against the bookshelf. "He played both sides masterfully. While Victoria took the heavy blows, David stayed in the shadows, quietly transferring seventy percent of the company’s liquid assets into Swiss shell corporations under his own control. If Victoria went down, David was set to inherit the entire empire without firing a single shot."

Daniel slowly closed the folder, his jaw clenched so tightly a muscle twitched in his cheek. The relief of defeating Victoria evaporated instantly, replaced by a cold, calculated fury.

"Where is David right now?" Daniel asked, his voice deathly quiet.

"He’s currently hosting the emergency shareholder gala at the Grand Meridian Hotel downtown," Marcus replied smoothly. "He’s scheduled to take the podium in one hour to announce himself as the sole interim CEO of the Vance Corporation, capitalizing on Victoria's sudden arrest."

Daniel stood up from the desk, smoothing the lapels of his tailored black suit. A dangerous, chilling smile touched the corners of his lips.

"Then let’s not keep our dear cousin waiting," Daniel said, walking toward the door. "Let’s go give him a family reunion he’ll never forget."
