Chapter 5 - THE VAULT BENEATH THE TOWERThe elevator descent into the sub-basement of Vance Global Tower took forty-five seconds—forty-five seconds of absolute silence, broken only by the heavy, wheezing breaths of Bear lying sedated on a medical gurney in the corner of the freight car.

Sophie stood beside Damian, her small hand firmly holding the edge of his suit jacket. She hadn't let go of the silver locket since they left the harbor.
"You knew it was there, didn't you?" Sophie asked quietly, her brown eyes reflecting the dim emergency lighting of the shaft.
Damian looked down at her. The resemblance to his sister was staggering—not just in the face, but in that unnerving, unblinking composure under pressure. "I knew our father built secure rooms, Sophie. I didn't know he kept people in them."
The elevator doors slid open with a heavy pneumatic hiss, revealing a sterile, white-tiled corridor lined with biometric security scanners and sealed vault doors stamped with the warning: LEVEL 9 - CLASSIFIED BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH.
At the far end of the corridor stood Marcus, his pistol drawn, staring through the reinforced glass observation window of Vault 9B.
"Boss… you need to see this," Marcus said, his voice uncharacteristically shaken.
Damian walked past him and peered into the glass.
Inside the clinical, well-lit containment room sat a woman with long, dark hair tied back in a messy braid, wearing a white patient gown. She was sitting at a metal table, calmly sipping a cup of tea as if she were waiting for a morning meeting.
It wasn't an impostor. It was Elena Vance. Twelve years older, thinner, with a faint scar tracing down the side of her neck, but undeniably alive.
Before Marcus could punch the security override, the electronic lock on Vault 9B flashed green from the inside.
The heavy steel door swung open. Elena stepped out into the corridor, her bare feet touching the cold tile floor. She didn't look at Marcus. She didn't look at the high-tech security cameras overhead. Her eyes locked instantly onto the little girl standing behind Damian.
"You brought her home," Elena said, her voice trembling as tears finally spilled over her eyelashes. "You brought my baby home."
Sophie broke away from Damian, running across the hallway and colliding into her mother’s arms with a choked sob.

Damian stood watching them, his chest tight with a strange, unfamiliar ache. But before he could take a step forward, the security monitors along the corridor wall simultaneously flickered off, replaced by a single, flashing red warning code.
HOOK: Every door in the underground facility slammed shut and locked automatically, and the facility's automated defense system announced a countdown to total structural purge, controlled by a voice that wasn't Julian’s or their father’s—it was their deceased patriarch himself.
