Chapter 8 - THE SINS OF THE FATHER"You always underestimated your daughters, Father," Elena said, her voice terrifyingly calm as the red indicator light on the detonator blinked a steady, rhythmic pulse.

Arthur’s smile vanished. For the first time in his life, genuine panic flickered across the old man’s eyes. "Elena… you wouldn't bring down your own family. Your daughter is standing right beside you."

"My daughter is going to live in a world free of your ghosts," Elena replied, stepping forward until she stood beside Damian. She glanced sideways at her brother, her eyes softening just a fraction. "Right, Damian?"

Damian looked from his father—the tyrant who had ruled their lives through fear and blood—to his sister, and finally down at Sophie, who was clutching the silver locket with fierce determination.

"The empire dies tonight," Damian said, his voice absolute and final. He raised his pistol, not pointing it at Elena or Julian, but directly at the master server console behind his father’s desk.

"You're insane!" Julian screamed, lunging forward to grab the detonator from Elena’s hand.

Before Julian could take two steps, a heavy, dark shadow leaped through the shattered glass of the penthouse balcony doors.

It was Bear.

Despite his injuries, the massive dog crashed into Julian with the force of a battering ram, sending both of them tumbling across the imported Persian rug before slamming hard against the floor-to-ceiling windows. The reinforced glass cracked in a spiderweb pattern under the impact.

"Marcus! Get Elena and Sophie back in the lift!" Damian ordered, his finger tightening on the trigger of his Sig Sauer.

"I'm not leaving you, Damian," Elena shouted over the rising wail of the facility’s emergency sirens.

"You already won," Damian said, firing three rapid rounds into the master server console. Showers of blue sparks erupted as the Vance Global mainframe short-circuited permanently, wiping out decades of offshore ledgers, criminal contracts, and corporate data in a single blinding flash.

HOOK: As the server died, the entire skyscraper plunged into pitch darkness—except for a single red emergency flare igniting outside on the balcony, revealing an army of black-suited mercenaries surrounding the building from the air.
